Sweet Onion Patty

This simple twist on an old Southern classic is sure to please. A vegetarian patty is perfect for any summer picnic or cookout and will be sure to impress all your guests. Top with Francine’s Sweet Onion Jam for an extra dimension of flavor.

  • ¾ cup of flour
  • 1 Tbsp of sugar
  • 1 Tbsp of cornmeal
  • 2 tsp of baking powder
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 tsp of montreal steak seasoning
  • 2½ cups of chopped sweet onions
  • ¾ cup of milk
  • peanut oil for frying
  • sour cream for dipping
  1. Mix together dry ingredients.
  2. Add milk and stir until batter thickens.
  3. Add onions and mix thoroughly.
  4. Heat ½ inch oil in skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Drop batter by tablespoons in hot oil and flatten slightly. Brown on both sides until nice and crisp.
  6. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve with sour cream for dipping.
