Chef Tune’s Vidalia Onion Dip

Looking for the perfect dip to carry to your next gathering? This classic Vidalia sweet onion dip is it! It’s creamy, full of French onion flavor, and sure to be the talk of the tailgate or cookout.

This recipe was created by celebrity chef and Food Network Chopped champion, Chef Shannen Tune of craftburgerfoodtruck.com.

Ingredients
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 Vidalia onions, diced
  • 2 large shallots, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp celery salt
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • kosher salt
  • freshly ground pepper
  • chives, finely chopped, for garnish
  • potato chips, for serving
Instructions
  1. In a large sauté pan, heat the butter over medium-high heat. Add the onions and sauté, stirring occasionally, for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown and caramelized.
  2. Add the shallots and sauté for 8 to 10 more minutes, until the onions and shallots are dark brown.
  3. Add the garlic and sauté for 2 minutes.
  4. Remove from the heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Set aside to cool to room temperature.
  5. In a bowl, mix the sour cream, mayonnaise, celery salt, Worcestershire sauce, and 1 tsp each of salt and pepper.
  6. Fold in the onion mixture. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  7. Garnish with chives and serve with potato chips.
