  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp pepper
  • 1 cup beer
  • 4 sweet onions

Seasoned Flour Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
Instructions
  1. Mix cornstarch, flour, and seasonings until well blended. Add beer and mix well.
  2. Cut about ¾-inch off of the top of the onion and peel.
  3. Cut onion into 12 to 16 vertical wedges but do not cut through bottom root end.
  4. Remove about 1 inch of petals from center of onion.
  5. You may want to separate the onion petals slightly, but do not do this too much as you will destroy the onion.
  6. Dip onion in seasoned flour and remove excess by shaking.
  7. Separate petals to coat thoroughly with batter.
  8. Dip in batter. Dip in flour mixture again.
  9. Gently place in fryer basket and deep-fry at 375 to 400°F (190 to 200°C) for 1 to 1½ minutes.
  10. Turn over and fry an additional 1 to 1½ minutes.
  11. Drain on paper towels.
  12. Place onion upright in shallow bowl and remove center core with circular cutter or apple corer.
  13. Serve with favorite dipping sauce.
